A beautifully restored 12th Century farmhouse, set amidst 28 acres of gardens, terraced lawn and woodlands. Sitting atop the magnificent hills of Umbria's unspoiled Italian countryside, this retreat also boasts one of the best on-site spas that we've ever come across.

What you can expect from your yoga holiday...

This is one of those beautiful and peaceful old houses set in gorgeous countryside that can surely only be found in the heart of Italy, and this one lies head and shoulders above others in both its peerless natural setting and the charm and warmth of its hosts. Stroll through the olive grove, inhale the scent of roses and herbs, or simply curl up with a book under the shade of the old elm tree. Every corner is another picture perfect view, a secret space to explore and enjoy. This retreat is a little piece of paradise.

Fully-equipped Moorish style spa...

Relax and unwind in the beautifully appointed on-site spa, complete with oil-infused rain shower and steam room, as well as treatment rooms and fabulous lounge area with heated stone slabs. Take a refreshing dip in the beautifully located infinity pool or enjoy a deep soothing soak in the blissful hot tub overlooking valleys of olive groves.

Stunning unspoiled location...

The location is superb: Tranquil, rustic Italy with incredible views in all directions.  It is rare to find yourself in such a vast expanse of totally unspoiled picture-perfect countryside and lush green hills. Wooded paths alongside streams, rivers and waterfalls tempt you to explore the surrounding wilderness. You can literally walk for hours in profound beauty without seeing another person. Though you may, if you're lucky, encounter deer.

The extensive gardens are equally impressive. Picture walls of stone aged by the centuries, gardens of elegant lawns and aged olive trees, hidden nooks and crannies with deep cushioned daybeds and secret hammocks, and the scent of lavender and rosemary filling the air, a fabulous sun-drenched terrace and verandah perfect for watching the setting sun. You may not want to leave the grounds, but if you do then just beyond a crown of hills, stand Umbria's many cities of art, abundant in their treasures, their elegant streets and traditions. So near, so far away...

Life-affirming daily yoga with two fabulous international teachers...

Jim Tarran and Khadine Morcom are an exceptional teaching duo. With over 40 years teaching experience between them and the corresponding knowledge and understanding which that has brought them, their classes are infused with a warmth, wisdom, and good humour that is truly remarkable. Their individual attention and teaching expertise together with the incredible natural beauty and meditative spaces of Locanda's 28 hectares of gardens and woodland is a combination that never fails to empower and inspire.

Fine dining...

One of the great pleasures of this retreat is the delicious food. Savour superb, locally sourced and organic fine food full of authentic Italian flavours, sure to delight the palate of even the most fastidious gourmets. Outstanding buffet lunches and four course dinners. Enjoy the finest traditions of Italian cuisine at the hands of Locanda's fabulously talented chefs. Meat and fish from the local market. Fresh pasta and fabulous risottos. Organic tomatoes, salad leaves, aromatic herbs and vegetables from the garden and olive oil from the olive grove. Fresh cheeses, home-baked breads and mouthwatering deserts. Fabulous local wines are also on offer for those who wish to enjoy a glass or two.

The best of Umbria...

Umbria is a paradise for nature lovers and culture seekers alike. There are many quiet paths waiting to be explored in the valley surrounding the retreat. If you want to adventure further along the paths there are a selection of mountain bikes for you to use, or if you are looking for company for a woodland stroll, the retreat's very friendly chocolate labrador is always a willing escort. Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Spoleto and Orvieto, Umbria's medieval towns are all a very pleasant drive away.

Your teachers - Jim Tarran and Khadine Morcom

Jim Tarran

Jim has been practicing yoga since 1990 and teaching since 1992. He also devised, and runs, the Yoga Alliance registered, 500-hour teacher training course Vajrasati Yoga, which has been going since 2000. His classes across London and Sussex are known for their honesty, depth and humour. With over 60 international retreats behind him, he knows that the mark of a great trip is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living; a re-establishing of the harmony between self and universe. Jim also has a great sense of humour and is guaranteed to make you laugh!

Khadine is a Senior Teacher in the Vajrasati Yoga School and assists on the teacher training course. She has been practicing yoga since 1997 and teaching since 2004. Her classes are deep, kind and fun and her passion for the whole field of yoga, along with her warm nature, make classes with her uplifting and inspiring. Her studies in yoga have been with a wide range of international teachers and she finds inspiration in fusing yogic philosphy and embodied practice together.

Jim and Khadine will alternate teaching the classes and assisting each other where required. Often studying and practicing together their teaching styles are compatible and students will benefit from the variety of presentation they will get from classes taught by both a male and female teacher. The classes will focus on asana but will also include: dhyana (mediation), pranayama (breathing practices), mudra (hand gestures and other 'energy containers') and mantra (chanting), with a view to waking up to the undivided holism of our essence.

There will be two yoga classes each day except for the 15th when there will be an afternoon off for those who want to explore further afield - or just enjoy a couple of extra hours in the on-site spa! The first yoga session will be on the morning of the 13th May and the last on the evening of the 17th.
